1. An Introduction to Tourism - General issues related to Tourism: history, factors affecting tourism, etc. - Basic vocabulary about tourism. - Grammar: Review of Present tenses and Past tenses/ Making questions/ The Passive Voice. - Getting information from clients through questions. - Writing descriptions: Describing traditions using the passive voice. 2. The Organization and Structure of Tourism - General issues related to the lesson: reasons to travel, etc. - Grammar: Indirect questions. Review of Future tenses. - “-ed” pronunciation. - Specific vocabulary about the structure and organization of tourism, specific jobs related to tourism. - Giving definitions of jobs related to tourism. - Analysis of the different parts of a CV and covering letter. How to write a CV. - Writing CVs and covering letters. 3. Holidays and Travel agents - General issues related to holidays and travel agencies: booking, vacation descriptions, immigration rules, etc. - Grammar: Making Suggestions and giving information, expressing obligation, lack of obligation, permission, lack of permission. General Review of modal verbs and their different uses. - Vocabulary: types of holidays, types of travelling (e.g. business traveller). - Making a booking and taking a booking. - Telephone conversations. - Expressing requirements to travel to certain countries. - Describing cultural factors to be taken into account when travelling using structures for giving advice. 4. Holidays and Tour operators - General issues about tour operators: responsibilities, etc. - Comparing travel agents to tour operators. - Giving definitions of words related to tour operators and travel agents. - Specific vocabulary: tour operation. - Analysis of different types of texts tour operators send and receive: memos, e-mails, faxes, enquiries, phone messages, etc. Replies to these types of texts. - Grammar: Expressions for complaining, negotiating. Review of conditionals. - Written complaints: how to reply. - Spoken complaints: how to reply. 5. Air Travel - General issues about air travel: airport procedures, flight procedures, etc. - Learning to differentiate different airport announcements. - Specific vocabulary: different parts of an airport, flight procedures, elements of an aircraft, etc. - Giving definitions of words related to air travel. - Explaining and describing a procedure. - Grammar: connectors. Review of reported speech and question formation. - Managing problems in the airport: at check-in, etc - Giving directions in an airport. 6. Travel by sea, road and rail - General issues about these types of transport. - Grammar: comparison, contrast and reinforcement (spoken and written register), review of advice and suggestions. - Enquiring about renting a car - Specific vocabulary about cruises, trains and road, guiding language, etc. - Analysis of a tour itinerary. - Writing an itinerary. - Writing a guided tour. - Tour guiding: how to guide tourists. - Dealing with problems (sea, road and rail): sympathizing, calming. Describing what happened. Planificación Aproximadamente se darán dos temas por mes (Tema 1 y 2: Marzo; Tema 2 y 3: Abril; Tema 5 y 6: Mayo; y las primeras semanas de Junio serán para la elaboración del trabajo final). Metodología Se recomienda al alumno que realice todas las lecciones de la Unidad Didáctica en el orden en el que se encuentran sin pasar por alto ninguna de sus secciones. Cuando surjan dudas el alumno deberá planteárselas a la profesora. Recomendamos establecer una rutina de estudio destinando una serie de horas a la semana para preparar la asignatura. El inglés es una materia de aprendizaje progresivo, por lo tanto, se hace difícil su asimilación si no se trabaja con constancia.

Esta asignatura requiere un nivel avanzado de la lengua inglesa por lo que se aconseja tener un conocimiento de inglés medio o medio-alto (B1 o B2 en el Portfolio Europeo de las Lenguas) relacionado con Turismo.
El curso está diseñado para perfeccionar a un nivel avanzado una gran variedad de destrezas relacionadas con la industria del turismo. Se pretende perfeccionar el vocabulario, la gramática, y las destrezas de writing, speaking, reading y listening de los estudiantes requeridas para tratar con situaciones comunes relacionadas con el turismo.

Se establecerán una horas semanales de tutoría virtual en común para que los alumnos puedan resolver sus dudas. La comunicación a través de e-mail será constante y también se podrá utilizar como medio para resolver dudas.
